A
New Doctor in the House
We welcome Laura H. Fisher, M.D., who grew up
on a farm in York County and always wanted to be a doctor. She
chose allergy as her field but had considered veterinary medicine
because of her love for animals.
She and her husband, who is also a physician, own a farm near
Mount Joy, which they hope to eventually turn into a working farm.
They’ve already begun with one lamb.
When asked why she chose allergy as her specialty, Dr.
Fisher says, “I had done my rotations and it seemed to
me that all of medicine comes down to immunology. Patients get
better and correct management can make a real difference. There
is also lots of room for taking part in women’s health
issues. We’re not always taken seriously when it
comes to our health. I want to make a difference here too, for
example in the area of asthma and pregnancy.”
Away from the office, her sports interests include hiking, skiing,
horseback riding and gardening. But she also loves to spend time
in her kitchen, cooking and baking.
Dr. Fisher’s academic and medical background include
