Holiday Gifts for Asthmatics

The winter season usually means holidays and gift giving. What kind of present can you buy for an asthmatic? There are so many items that can trigger an asthma attack, from pollens, to smoke from fireplaces, to fabrics, mold from trees and possibly scents from perfumes.

Even the popular poinsettia, mistletoe and holy often contain molds and collect dust, both of which are allergy triggers.

So what’s left?  How about a good quality vacuum cleaner that contains a true HEPA filter that captures over 99.9% of dust mites, pollens and ragweed, or “No Smoking” signs for your home’s hall and car?

Since asthmatics often have allergies, too, you might consider allergy-free linens, covers or bedding, and wooden or metal toys for children.

Speaking of children, books are a great gift and there are those about asthma including the Asthma Alphabet Book for young children, and The Lion Who Had Asthma as well as Taking Asthma to School; and SPORTSercise, among others.
