As one camper told a counselor, "This isn't asthma camp. This is camp, and we just have asthma!" That's the way it is now. Kids at asthma camps all over Pennsylvania and elsewhere do everything other campers do. They swim and run and have campfires; they dance and paint; they yell and laugh, and at some, after horseback riding, they jump in the lake with all their clothes on to get rid of dander. Today's camps have infirmaries that are thoroughly stocked with asthma medications and equipment, and they are staffed round the clock by doctors, nurses and respiratory therapists. While the kids are having fun, they are also taught how to manage their asthma. And they are surrounded by other kids with the same problem, so there's no embarrassment. Not all are alike. Some specialize in certain skills. But they all include having fun and building self-confidence. If you want them to be not too far away, but close enough to visit, check out this list of asthma camps in Pennsylvania. Click here: Find an Asthma Camp Near You
