What Good are Sinuses Anyway?

They're one big headache. So what's the purpose?

They're heaters, moisturizers and filters, and when they are doing those jobs you don't even notice them. But when they become inflamed and filled with mucous (a seemingly unending supply), they throb and hurt and they make us cough.and cough.

And your allergist tells you, "You may have sinusitis. Let's do something about it." He may recommend sinus x-rays, allergy tests, CT scans and other diagnostic procedures.

From there it's on to relief, often allergy shots or medications.
