The Allergy/Sinusitis/Rhinitis Connection

Think you can just ignore allergies and maybe they will go away? No way.
Research and doctors' experience show that if you don't take care of your allergies you could be heading for something worse…sinus infections.

But, as allergists know, if you do take care of those allergies early through medications and/or immunotherapy or shots, it often results in significant or complete improvement.

Allergic rhinitis, commonly known as hay fever, is an underlying condition in over 50% of patients with chronic rhinosinusitis. So it's essential to treat allergy-rhinosinusitis for both conditions at the same time in order to provide the best outcome.

Why do they seem to overlap? Because allergies cause swelling and blockage of the tiny holes which allow drainage of mucus from the sinuses. In addition, the allergies may cause swelling inside the sinuses and inside the nose. It is critical that patients with allergies control their environment in order to control their sinusitis.
